I'm bored of living here seeing street after street of generic brands that have monopolised all they can an costa here or Starbucks there a McDonald's or KfC or Burger King squeezing out any sign of identity or character areas once had rarer is the quirky coffee shop with the unusual mixtures or take on classic offering the sense of community is washed away as shops come raising rent and letting those worth being there go Tesco is a prime example of a brand that's never content reaching out further and further getting smaller and smaller till its on every corner instead of every other other corner at present

The New New

The new new when will there be the newness that fashion once had when now it seems fashion is so derivative, stale, stiff and boring in my sense the new new is hardly embraced and the new that is embraced has studied the old so much that it is the old with a new name, its routine and repetitive yet prizes itself on renewal every 6 month but is it really new or just classic shapes reinterpreted by houses that gain a signature style and that is the style the clothes take on and this is how businesses are created and customers consume. The Magazines that once question, dissected and discussed fashion can't speak their minds if they wanted to as they are scared of upsetting and ads being pulled. Editors sit on their thrones for too long and stylists who's tired eyes are now strained and who use the same photographs who use the same models over and over and over. There is still hope in the inbetweeners who do it for the name fame and money but still have something if not new somewhat refreshing and I believe that is where the industry is at Today the 80's had I-D the 90's had Dazed and it seems nothing really has emerged in the 00's that can be on the same level of those two just mentioned I mean we have Love which is supposed to be a style bible yet was born from the fact Katie Grand is a powerhouse that consults for powerhouses and Conde Nast is also a powehouser that has created something not daring but in a sense different. Which is a sign for where the industry is at when a magazine replicates the formula set by those who once innovated.

The designers or mostly the main innovators have gone Mcqueen is dead, Galliano vanquished, Ghesquire quit three very powerful voices that used to shout and there echo be heard throughout and Nicola Formechetti who worked his way up in Dazed to create some of the most memorable covers and images in recent fashion representing not only London but unique and interesting fashion spreads featuring a range of up and coming designers shot by the new-guard that now shoots Dolce ads and Elle Spreads being able to move onto Vogue Homme Japan where he once again created a formula that balanced avant-garde with commercial elements another Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld who was the head of one the most interesting of Vogues stepped down from her role leaving another gap in the industry she now has a presence at her own magazine and at Harper's but its not really the same and will it ever be probably not. It leaves one to question will fashion ever be the same when the most creative of clothes vehicles couture is dying or should I say slowing down to a pace where catwalks are no longer needed (hello Givenchy).
Creative Nonfiction

Lena Dunham once again I've now watched all I can watch of what's she's created (apart from season 2 finale of Girls) which airs tonight and I'll see on Tuesday or something

A cute film which jumps from a scripted dorm life to a story that the character Lena plays is creating her story is so crazy but it made the normal shit not as bland and normal being what we've all seen a dozen dorm movies but her scripts as usual made it more real

Sleepless in seattle

I watched purely as Lena Dunham hailed Nora Ephron as an inspiration so I wanted to see if there was any parallels and its always good to see those who inspire me what inspires them.

Its a cute movie that questions the ideas of love can you love again when you've loved and lost a love you found perfect? Should you settle to settle? Is love really just like the movies? All these questions were asked yet remain unanswered as it was peppered with fantasy.

In Praise of Freaks & Geeks

I've heard so much about Freaks & Greeks (mainly in old James Franco glorified cover stories) prior to even bothering to watch its been canonised as that hip show that help create a slew of stars and was a moment in time it seems that hollywood was filled with young stars that used the show as a platform we all know the Freaks turned out well James Franco needs no mention nor Jason Seagel or Seth Rogen its funny to see the stars budding, young and full of promise.

There's so much more to show as not only does it show the lives of the un- pretty and unpopular (who happen to be pretty but hey it can't be too raw) these wasn't the glittering teens of yesteryear full of promise living the American dream no it was broken homes, poor families, drop outs and those held back, shattered dreams yet also dealing with a variety of issues that's hits home not only for teens but for an older audience that maybe able to read the subtle signs of women's repression the generation prior such as Weir families mum who is a stay home mother cooking and cleaning and has squandered any chance of a career, Neal's mother forced to accept a husband playing the field

18 episodes is enough for it to be seen as a great product of time and place and to crave more yet also appreciate the show fully and warm to its characters and world it would of been great to see what became of Lindsey yet maybe not maybe that's what makes the show good as it never got to continue and burn out it just burned bright for a right amount of time

The cast is littered with potential not just the main or supporting but those who pop in to only pop out again a young Shia Lebeauf or Jason Schtzman or Ben Stiller
